BRIEF
Redesign an outdated album cover of your choice and produce the packaging of the album along with an added promotional deliverable and examples of social media presence.
RESPONSE
Due to the 30th anniversary of the album Ninety by 808 State being 1 year away, the album was chosen as a nostalgic celebration of the peak of Acid House in the UK.
With the recent resurface of the genre in England, the album was redesigned with a more youthfull and colourful approach than the original, in order to target the younger demographic of house fans, while also paying a tribute to 808 State’s history.
PROCESS
With the main theme of the album design being the history of the acid house genre, the visuals rely on a square grid behind the bright neon 90’s colours, forming the acidic bubbles. All assets for the album and the poster were created in Adobe Illustrator.
The bubbles were an attempt to create abstract 3D objects that reflect the genre and as a result, directly communicate the characteristics of the music to someone who is less familiar with acid house.
TOUR POSTER & SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE
For the additional deliverable, a poster for a possible 808 State tour was created, in response to the relaunch of Ninety, with similar visuals to those of the album. A new set of the 3D assets were created in order to better fit the portrait format of the poster.
Additionally, mock-ups of social media presence were created to better visualise the new identity created for the album, first in a music streaming platform, and then in a social media platform.
